The Chicago Design Through the Decades project is a swift, exciting journey through the history of Chicago design spanning the last one hundred years (1920s–2020s). The project is based on the vast collection of the Chicago Design Archive (CDA), a permanent online record of Chicago design, currently holding over 3200 examples of work by over 1100 Chicago designers, including posters, books, and other publications, from typography specimens to identity systems. About The Merchandise Mart Building (Source Linked) & Art on the Mart
The Mart is a commercial building located in downtown Chicago, Illinois. When it was opened in 1930, it was the largest building in the world, with 4 million square feet (372,000 m2) of floor space.The Art Deco structure is located at the junction of the Chicago River's branches.
Art On The MART is the largest permanent digital art projection in the world, projecting contemporary artwork across the 2.5 acre river-façade of theMART.
Art on theMART is the latest iconic milestone on Chicago’s visionary trajectory of public art. In September 2018, theMART introduced Art on theMART to the world with a launch event that attracted over 32,000 people to the Riverwalk and Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago, transforming its urban context.
Since the launch, Art on theMART has provided a public platform for moving image work by renowned local, national and international multi-disciplinary artists. The program is the result of a 30-year commitment by theMART owner Vornado Realty Trust, in close collaboration with the City of Chicago, with the shared goal to provide public access to innovative contemporary artwork for the thousands of visitors traversing the Chicago Riverwalk each day.
