I am part of NASA’s Conceptual Image Lab, specializing in creating graphics, animations, visualizations and other contents for NASA. It may be strange at first that NASA would need artist and designers. But our work spans wide across many different missions at NASA to help communicate the science to decision makers, science communities and general public.
Internally, we collaborate closely with scientists and engineers, transforming their concepts into compelling visuals. This aids in securing funding for potential missions, providing a crucial visualization tool that becomes integral when presenting proposals to stakeholders. Our role is pivotal in shaping the narrative and garnering support, making our team a component in the inception of official NASA missions.
Externally, we contribute to NASA’s broader communication efforts, playing a vital role in public engagement. From still illustrations for podcasts to intricate 3D and 2D motion graphics explaining the science behind missions, our team covers a diverse spectrum. We extend our creativity to branding and broadcast design, ensuring that the general public is not only informed but captivated by the scientific endeavors and missions undertaken by NASA. As the internal design studio for the entire agency, we take pride in visually conveying the essence of NASA’s groundbreaking work to everyone.
